Karen Ekman-Baur has been involved in the field of education for many years, in both teaching and university advising.  She taught for a number of years in the United States before moving to Germany in 1976, continuing her teaching career in U.S. Department of Defense schools and at the International School of Stuttgart.  She has been active in the international guidance community since 2002, regularly attending professional conferences and participating in tours to a variety of colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and Europe.  From 2002 through 2008, she was instrumental in developing the college advising program at the International School of Stuttgart.  In 2012-2013, Mrs. Ekman-Baur served as Interim Director of College Counseling at the Leysin American School in Switzerland, and from August 2016 through March 2017, she served as Acting Director of Career and College Counselling at Aiglon College in Villars, Switzerland.

Mrs. Ekman-Baur served as a member of the Guidance and Counseling Committee of the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) from 2006- 2008. In 2008, she assumed responsibility for leading the yearly E/CIS College Counselor Tour of colleges and universities and led the Council of International Schools (CIS) University Counselor Tours in 2009 and 2010. She subsequently led the Overseas Association for College Admission Counseling (OACAC) Summer Counselor Tours in 2013 and 2014. Mrs. Ekman-Baur is a Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and is certified by the American Institute of Certified Educational Planners (AICEP). She is also a member of the International Association for College Admission Counseling (International ACAC), and the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).

Mrs. Ekman-Baur is committed to helping students reach their higher education goals by assisting them in negotiating the sometimes complicated university search and application processes and in finding universities and career paths which “fit”.  In addition to counseling individual students for both undergraduate and graduate studies, she conducts Information Sessions, College Preparatory “Boot Camps”, and College Essay Writing Workshops in locations worldwide.
